to no one: ever!

If watching a bunch of
kids slide up and down stair handles and walls for an hour – expertly
linked by John having a laugh – is your thing then check it
out.
As John comment's:
"As brilliant as
they are on their skateboard's, they're fucking idiots off them
"

Rotten
TV |
VH-1,
1999-2000
Three half hour episodes
for VH-1, USA.
John's very own show.
Each episode as unique as the man himself. No strict format:
Not a talk show; not a
music show; not a sketch show; not a political debate show. But
yes: all of the above, and more. I think it's called content...
"No Lies, No Fake,
No Fraud…"
Of a planned series of
seven only three were completed before VH-1 and Mr Rotten decided
they were no longer suited. Pity, because things were really beginning
to get interesting...
Episode
1: "What
time does the war start?" John gets thrown off Roseanne Barr's
talk show; destroys Sex Pistols memorabilia with a tank; interviews
a Hollywood Madame-cum-entertainer (no pun!); gets stood up by 'rock
stars'; and interview's wannabe MTV VJ's (yes Simon, we saw it too).
Episode
2:
Life in front of – and behind – the
media circus. John goes to the Sundance Film Festival; gets interviewed,
and does some of his own brand of 'Attack Hampster' interviewing.
Episode
3: US Election Special. Mr Rotten visits the Republican
and Democrat Party conventions. A behind-the-scenes look at the
hypocrisy and fake showbiz glam of American politics, but with an
important message: 'Make your voice heard!' And you say VH-1 decided
the scrap the show after this episode? I wonder why. The scaredy
cats... |

VH-1:
The Grammies |
VH-1,
February 1999
Presenter (and roving
reporter) for the official VH-1 live coverage of the 1999 Grammy
Awards.
Set up by VH-1 as a live
(pre-Rotten TV) sink or swim screentest John meets and
greets the various "stars" in true Rotten style; terrorising
the hapless celebs where necessary (with a smile of course). The
likes Bonnie old pro Rait have a laugh, but others like
truck loads of make up Areosmith are less than pleased.
Without doubt the highlight has to be when he gives Brian Setzer
of the Stray Cats a 1999 calendar to remind him what year it is!
Pity VH-1 didnt show more of the juicier outtakes; the scaredy
cats...
John appears in both
the Pre-Show & 'Red Carpet Post Show' segments.
All improvised, and off the collar, John shows them who the true
star really is. |

South
Park: Behind the Menu |
|
|
Comedy
Central, USA, October 1998
Using his unique Rotten
vocalising John narrates the South Park special: 'Behind
the Menu.' A spoof documentary on the making of the 'Chef Aid' album.
Featuring various interviews with the likes of Flea, Elton John,
Meatloaf, Ozzy & Joe Strummer.
The perfect choice: surely
Johnny Rotten is pure South Park? Or should that be the other way
around…

Judge
Judy |
|
|
Full
US syndication. November 1997.
Robert Williams v's John
Lydon!
Only in America folks.
Drummer Robert Williams decides to take John Lydon to the small
claims court, suing for $5,000 in unpaid fees and civil battery
(a charge previously dismissed by the Police).
Enter the 'peoples court'
style TV show 'Judge Judy' who on hearing of the action decides
to approach both parties. To cut a long story short, not unsurprisingly
(after listening to Williams) Judge Judy rules in Lydon's favour;
but not before sternly admonishing him for speaking out of turn
and disrupting the proceedings. Read the official Virgin
Press release for full info on the case.
"Now I'm going to get
on with my life. We're going after the real killers… !" |
