Roger Ebert gives F&F
3 1/2 stars!
Also, there's a new interview with John over
at the San Francisco Examiner. Go check it out.
And lastly, stop by The Baltimore Sun for
a pretty good interview/read. (I hope I didn't post that already!)
- Thanks to everyone who sent in today's News Updates!

John was a guest on last
nights "Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn". In case you missed it (I did),
here's a brief run down...
"...Kilborn was enthusiastically moronic, Lydon was very quotable on
such varied topics as (1) rottentv (2) the documentary (3) modern music
is rubbish (4) longhairs were and are the enemy, etc. etc. etc. He also
mentioned VH1 are running one of the rottentv episodes again tomorrow
(wednesday) at 11pm EST."
- Thanks to Mike and John for the info!
Finally, thanks to everyone for all the many
F&F reviews! It's very much appreciated, but literally impossible to list
them all. Suffice it to say, this movie is a MUST SEE! Go out and find
it at your local indie theater if you can! Judging from these rave reviews,
it almost looks like we might be seeing John at the Oscars in 2001. Scoot
over King Gimp...

Here's the link for last
night's Daily Show visit. You will need RealPlayer 7 (or G2) to watch
it. It's about 6 Megs, so I am also recommending Get Right in case the
download stops and you need to resume. Enjoy!!
March 28th, 2000
WOW!! TOO COOL!!
I hope everyone caught John's visit to The Daily Show last night! Too
friggin' classic! I will definitely make a RealVideo clip of it. And The
Daily One guest appearance warrants some screen caps with comments, mostly
him being the usual Johnny, but the best was definitely The Daily Show
segment.
Stay tuned!
And if you have news, please KEEP IT COMING! This is still the one and
only place to get the latest and best news! Thanks to all who've provided
breaking news over the last few months! Without you, we'd have missed
a lot...

And finally, AR writes to tell us the following:
"In the March 3rd 2000 issue of Entertainment Weekly, on page 74, there
is a section entitled 10 Stupid Questions ROTTEN EGGED. They ask John
ten questions. There is also a nice JR illustration."
- Thanks for the info AR!
March 3rd, 2000
We've just learned that
John will be featured in an upcoming photo shoot for the front cover of
Loaded Magazine's fashion edition. This should be in the next month or
two.
Episode II of Rotten TV is in production as
you read this. Editing is in progress for the Sundance Film Festival highlight
episode. Reportedly, a lot of great coverage to try to fit into only a
hlaf an hour show. Maybe we'll see a special 1 hour version of Rotten
TV?!
- Thanks to an anonymous source for the above news!
For up-to-date and behind-the-scenes info
on the Sex Pistols documentary The Filth and the Fury, please visit

Here are several photos
of John and company from the recent Sundance Film Festival:
Also, here's the text that went with the last pic from Entertainment Weekly:
Entertainment Weekly
Febraury 11, 2000
It must've happened when the Mormons
were cloistered at the tabernacle: Somewhere in the middle of Sundance
2000, a Trojan horse wheeled into Park City shuttling the likes of Love,
Charlie Sheen, and Johnny Rotten into the snow-dusted mountain village.
Not even Robert Redford was scared.
"The lazy old bastard hasn't
shown up," cracked Rotten, in town to promote Julien Temple's Sex
Pistol documentary The Filth and the Fury. "I'm desperate
to pull his wig."
"He's gotten wrinkly in his
old age, hasn't he?" said fellow Pistol Steve Jones.
"This the the good side of
Sundance," Rotten said of the festival's tendency to plunge into
dark territory. "It does allow those things to be screened. That
I do respect."
- Thanks to The Borg for sending in the pic and text from Entertainment
Weekly!
February 8th, 2000
Roger Ebert's F&F review
has finally been added to the Projects Section. This is followed
by another brief review from the Austin American-Statesman.
- Thanks to Brian!
'The Borg' tells us that the recent Entertainment
Weekly has a photo of John, Steve Jones and Julian Temple in it. We're
working on getting a scan of that for you.

John Lydon turns 44 today,
he was born on January 31st, 1956. Happy birthday John!
January 29th, 2000
I've updated the Projects
Section with some more reviews (newest ones are at the bottom). Also,
here's an excerpt of a review for F&F that was premiered this weekend
at the Sundance Film Festival:
"...There is plenty of great musical footage on display but this is
much more than simply a performance film. Required viewing for any Sex
Pistols fan, The Filth and The Fury makes the band seem as vital now as
it was in 1977."
For the full text of the review, please visit reel.com.
- Thanks to Brian for this update!
This is too funny! The folks over at iFuse
talked briefly to John at Sundance. Here's the extent of the "interview".
(They've also got a brief review, which includes John's comments when
he came on stage. Hilarious!)
iFUSE: Hey, what’s up Johnny?
JR:
Nothing much, buddy.
iFUSE:
I loved the documentary.
JR:
I didn’t make the fucking thing, but thanks.
iFUSE:
Well, you know what I mean.
JR:
Fuck it.
iFUSE:
What do you mean?
JR:
All the way, man.
And then he
walked away.
A reminder for those who get the Sundance
Channel, they will be running 3 hour "live" coverage shows of the film
fesival this weekend. Not sure if it will be the same 3 hour show aired
several times, etc., but their site has some more details. More to come
on that when it airs.
And lastly, turd tells us about the
following mentions...
"Aint It Cool News (http://www.aint-it-cool-news.com) posted a report
from a dude who was at Sundance and caught the premiere (it's amongst
six other blurbs he did). Over at http://www.sonicnet.com, they have an
article about how Johnny cries in the film and a tidbit about Danny Devito
grabbing Steve Jones's ass. Just thought I'd letchya know."
- Thanks turd

Many RTV articles, interviews and more regarding
the upcoming "Rotten TV", the Pistols documentary and Lydon's cameo in
"The Independent" can now be found at the current Projects Section.
- MANY thanks to Jenni, Paul and Brian for the great articles they
sent in!
There are a few new images at the images
section. One is from the infamous "RTV" VH1 commercial of John holding
the lemon and two from TV Guide Magazine; one of the interview photo and
the second is the actual interview text.
Again, if you missed the new VH1 show, check
out rottentv.com for some great info and video clips. Also, please send
them your responses to the new show. We've received many reviews from
viewers, which should be sent to the great staff over there at Rotten
TV.
Also, the band U2 is set to do seven tracks
for the soundtrack of the upcoming movie "The Million Dollar Hotel":
The Irish superstars have included a Spanish version of the Sex Pistols'
"Anarchy in the U.K." for the disc.
For the rest of the article, please visit RollingStone.com.
- Thanks to Paul for the info!
And a quick update on the Sundance Channel
cable coverage of the Sundance Film Festival: Looks like the only live
coverage will be the awards ceremony on the 30th. Stop by sundancechannel.com
for more info.

What a truly incredible half hour last night
was! The 'Roseanne' bit was priceless! There will be alot of info to put
up a little later today; articles, reviews, some news, etc., so please
be patient and check back later today.
In the mean time, drop by rottentv.com. It's a great place for info on
the new VH1 show, air times, AND video clips for those who didn't or couldn't
watch it last night. Also thanks to them for linking to this site! (I
will be adding theirs and many others over the next several days, when
we get our new links page up.)
Feel free to post your reviews on the message board, but most importantly,
take a moment to stop by the above site and let them know what you
thought of the show. It'll be your feedback that they'll be looking for
now.

Sundance Channel to cover festival:
I was watching the Sundance Channel and they were running commercials
saying they would be covering this weekend's film festival. Interviews
with stars, special clips, etc.
Sadly, this channel isn't available everywhere just yet. They normally
air mostly small, indy-type films. I just happen to receive it as part
of my satellite channel package (thank God). But I will do my damnedest
to catch any F&F coverage.
VH1 is now running commercials for "Rotten
Television"...
"I just saw a commercial for Rotten Television on VH1. It shows John
staring silently into the camera while forming an L with his thumb and
index finger while holding a piece of fruit in the other hand (I think
it was an apple...I don't remember). Crickets are making sounds in the
background. Then it switches to a screen that says "From the mind of Johnny
Rotten" and then proceeds to a screen with information on when the show
airs. A rather odd commercial to say the least, but to be expected from
John I suppose.
John's got red hair in the commerical too."
- Thanks to Ryan for the info!

(Copyright 2000) GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN, IT'S TALKMASTER JOHNNY ROTTEN
Yes, most of television is rotten, but VH1 isn't beating around the bush:
"Rotten Television" is a talk/ music/whatever show hosted by John Lydon
, a.k.a. Johnny Rotten (of Sex Pistols fame) premiering next Saturday
at midnight. (Coincidentally, that's the same day "Filth and Fury," Julien
Temple's documentary on the Sex Pistols , debuts at the Sundance Film
Festival in Utah.)
Rotten, 43, hasn't lost his feisty, confrontational attitude. "I've not
told lies," he says during a phone interview from his LA home, "and I've
always been true to my word. You might not like what I do, but at least
I mean it." He laughs. "I mean if I can forgive Margaret Thatcher, please
can you forgive me?"
Of what will become "Rotten Television," he says: "It's me up there yapping.
It's not a set show; it's not weepy guest celebrity nonsense, none of
that. It does not really have a format at all, which is murderous on any
kind of writing." Musical acts? "There might be, there might not be. Everything
will be on a tightrope. I don't want the world to expect any great suave,
well-produced thing at all. This will raise more questions than answers,
but I think this is the way things should be. The only true wisdom in
life is [accepting its] complete and utter nonsense."
In the show, Rotten slams memorabilia collectors - and blows up a plastic
sex doll whose mouth he has stuffed with a "valuable" suicide pact note
written by his ex-bandmate Sid Vicious to his lover, Nancy Spungeon.
Says Rotten: "I find it all irrelevant. It's what these people have done
that is relevant, not what they wore while doing it."
Since Rotten disses more than a few music pros on the show, does he expect
any negative feedback? "Almost totally. Nothing really changed in my approach
to life. I know what I do is valid for what it is. I don't need to be
justified."
Philosophy? "You can be cannon fodder or own the cannon."
- Thanks to Brian for the great interview!

This just in from VH1 themselves!
"Realized we need to give you the exact way we air shows on VH1. We
have a dual feed to the west coast - so western humans see it 3 hours
later meaning Rotten TV's debut will be at:
Midnight in both the Eastern & Pacific time zones, 11p Central.
So far, 2 repeats are scheduled of Episode #1.....
Tuesday, 1/25 at 6p / 5p Central and Wednesday, 1/26 at 11:30p / 10:30p
Central.
Our Rotten TV crew accompany John to Sundance to shoot for Episode #2
....
No airdate yet."
So it looks like John will be at the Sundance
Film Festival. Take a look at the following Entertainment Weekly article
that was sent in to us ...
PARK CITY ROCKERS
Johnny Rotten will be at Sundance plugging a film.
The former Sex Pistol joins the likes of Third Eye Blind
by Tom Sinclair
You don't have to wait until summer to feast on a Lollapalooza-style smorgasbord
of bands -- just light out for Park City, Utah, for the Sundance Film
Festival, where the ratio of musicians to filmmakers can feel like 1:1.
In past years, Joan Osborne, Blondie, and Slash have shown up, and you
never know who'll be jamming at the countless parties. This year's shindig
(Jan. 20-30) features John Popper, Third Eye Blind, Matthew Sweet, the
Verve Pipe, and Air, among others. ASCAP and BMG are organizing showcases
(no doubt to facilitate partnerships between filmmakers and musicians
who dabble in scores and soundtracks). ''If it can further the work that
directors and composers do together,'' says Sundance codirector Nicole
Guillemet, ''so much the better.'' And who's the edgiest musician on tap?
''Johnny Rotten will be there for the premiere of the Sex Pistols doc,
'The Filth and the Fury,''' says Sundance's R.J. Millard, ''but we don't
know whether he'll be playing or not.'' Oh, bollocks.
- Many thanks to Darcy and Paul for the info!
January 12th, 2000
VH1's TV schedule now lists RTV as confirmed

over at the Fine Line Features web site (the film's distributor):
THE FILTH & THE FURY
(March 29 NY, April 21 LA, April 28 Nationwide)
Directed by: Julien Temple
The Sex Pistols was one of the most influential bands of the 20th century.
The band was in existence for 26 months, recorded only one album, and
changed the face of music forever. The Sex Pistols' irreverent, incendiary
attitude has continued to resonate not just in the music industry, but
also in fashion and popular culture. Julien Temple first documented the
band in 1980 in The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle, a film constructed largely
from the point of view of mercurial manager Malcolm McLaren. The Filth
and the Fury provides a more historical perspective directly from the
members of this anarchistic band - Johnny Rotten (vocals), Steve Jones
(guitar), Paul Cook (drums) and original member Glen Matlock and his successor
Sid Vicious (bass). It contains never before seen footage, including an
extended interview with the late Vicious. Rare live footage is also featured,
including some of the Sex Pistols' biggest hits, "God Save the Queen,"
"Pretty Vacant" and "Anarchy in the U.K." The Filth and the Fury will
have its world premiere at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival.
- Thanks to Darcy for the update.

Got M2? This just in...
On M2, MTV's sister station, they are currently playing every single
video in the MTV vault A-Z for the millennium, and I mean EVERY one. They
are currently on the B's and played "Bad Life" last night. So anyone interested
in seeing PiL videos they've never seen before should tune into M2 every
now and again and when they are up to H for "Home" or R for "Rise" they
should get their VCR's ready to record them. But they should be patient
because it will take months to get to the end of the alphabet. I would
really like them to play "Sun" when they get to S but I'm not sure if
they will do so, since MTV never played it. But even if MTV have never
played it if it's in their vault M2 will play it so I guess there is a
chance. I was also wondering if you could tell me what songs PiL has videos
for? I haven't seen any of them and I would like to be able to record
them when they come on.
- Thanks to Psychospth
Uh, let's see (in no particular order)... Bad Life, Seattle, Disappointed,
Don't Ask Me, Rise, Home, Sun, Open Up, World Destruction, Warrior, Body,
Cruel, Covered, Love Song (mix).
(I was informed I forgot Public Image and Death Disco. Sorry!)

This just in from VH1 Viewer Services regarding
"Rotten TV"...
Rotten Television
The first of 7 episodes airs Sunday, 1/23 at Midnight / 11pm Central.
When asked off the top of John's head what the show was.....here's what
fell out of his bottom:
Hep! Tateuch (the first 7 books of the old testament).
Rotten Television is: an executionary cherry; a youthful mixture of both
science & health; and erudite promissory note; the last words in folk
art.....as opposed to popular delusion; a useful manual on how to control
household pests; a program that will leave only the corrupt confused and
your air conditioner still broken; a journey through John's shoes focusing
on the fine detail work in the stitching of the heels.

This just in from VH1 themselves...
EPISODE #1 of 7 is COMING
WATCH IT SUNDAY JANUARY 23rd at MIDNIGHT ON VH1

December 19th, 1999
Is everyone enjoying the eYada.com show so far? During last night's very
entertaining show, I called in and talked to John for about 15 minutes.
Here are just a few highlights of what was learned...
-
It is still
unkown when "The Independent" is going to be released. This movie
stars, among others, Janeane Garofalo. John has a brief cameo as a
party organizer.
-
Rotten
TV should be debuting on VH1 sometime in January.
-
And sadly,
John did not contribute one red cent to the $429,870,576 box-office
total for Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. After that, I
really had nothing to talk about.
You can call in to the show toll free in the U.S. at 1-877-EYADA99
(1-877-392-3299). Outside of the U.S., you can call collect at 1-212-581-7145.
The entire staff (all two of us) at john-lydon.com would like to wish
everybody happy holidays and have a wonderful new year! And please
- DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. Be safe - and hopefully, with
any luck, we'll all still be around after Y2K... stay tuned.
December 8th, 1999 - UPDATED
I forgot to mention (how could I have
forgotten?!) that the Sundance Film Festival 2000 will host the premiere
of The Filth and the Fury in January. But what ever happened to 'The

Everybody enjoy Saturday's show? If you
missed Rotten Radio you can listen to the archive of it on eYada.com.
It got a very nice write up below...
Johnny Rotten Makes Talk Radio Debut
ENTERT@INMENT.COM / WEB RADIO TURNS ROTTEN
by Charles Gruber
www.talkradioroundup.com
December 5, 1999
Former Sex Pistols and PiL singer John Lydon (aka Rotten) made a fantastic
debut as a talk show host as he began his weekly program on eyada.com.
Because of John's snappy wit and off the cuff sarcasm, many feared
that the program would be four hours of John berating his callers.
This could not be further from the truth. Rotten went out of his way
to make callers the focal point of the show. Additionally, John showed
that he is a truly likeable person. That does not mean he neglected
to criticize the music industry, government, and popular culture -
but criticism was given where he felt criticism was due. Additionally,
he showed the characteristic that will make him successful as a talk
host: he is REAL. No stereotypical "rock star" attitude was exhibited.
For example, Lydon is adamantly anti-drug and speaks to exactly why
he feels this way. Lydon could care less about what is "cool" while
at the same time he is a significant figure in the history of rock
music.
The show does have some growing pains to overcome. Being that Lydon
is a famous musician, many callers seemed to "worship" instead of
engaging in conversation. However, Lydon was bored by this kind of
banter and quickly moved on to other calls and e-mail. These types
of calls should taper off as time goes by as they are not encouraged
by John.
Most popular talk hosts fall into the "right wing" category. Why?
Because most who are to the left either are not entertaining, or they
forgo content for name-calling and sexual exploits. Lydon can break
this tradition. His views are original, thought provoking, and wide
ranging. This program will put eyada.com on the map. Furthermore,
Lydon can bring a whole new audience to the world of talk radio.
"Rotten Radio" can be heard every Saturday from 4pm - 8pm Eastern
Time on www.eyada.com.
- Thanks to Brian for the review!
The new issue of Rolling Stone magazine features a cast of memorable
millenium personalities that would make a perfect New Year's Eve party.
It's designed in a bizare manner of celebrities faces pasted over
naked models. It continues on the inside cover, showing none other
than a Pistol's era mug of Johnny Rotten, however I could locate no
mention of John or the Pistols in this worthless rag. If you happen
to have more patience than I did while I was in the bathroom, please
drop us a line.
Our devoted news informant Brian wrote
us advising that he heard a radio ad that the Blair Witch Project
is coming to Pay Per View and that if you purchase the Pay Per View
movie, you will get a preview of an 'exclusive' video. They then played
'The Order of Death', hinting that there may be a new PiL video coming.
It could also just be scenes from the movie with only the music in
the background. I bought the DVD of the movie, but if anyone orders
the Pay Per View version, please let us know what this exclusive video
is all about.
And lastly, John apparently made a reference
to our ever-twisted message board during last Saturday's show - I
listened to most of it, but haven't figured out just where yet. eYada.com
informed me that they plan on somehow plugging this site during an
upcoming show (thanks guys!). If you catch it, please note the time
and let us know. Thanks and that's all for now!
December 2nd, 1999
Sorry for the lack of updates and e-mail
replies. We've been having some major problems with the e-mail portion
of this site. I would like to thank everyone who wrote us over the
last couple of weeks. We will respond as soon as we have a chance
to catch up.
It looks like John will be live this Saturday
on eYada.com. If you can't sit by your computer from 4-8pm EST to
listen, you should be able to play the last show at your convenience
(providing it's like the other shows on eYada.com). Please read the

God save the Web. Johnny Rotten, former singer for the quintessential
punk-rock band the Sex Pistols, is getting his own online radio show.
Rotten, whose real name is John Lydon, will start Webcasting Rotten
Radio on Dec. 4, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on eYada.com, an online radio
station that focuses on talk radio. There are no boundaries, and I
cant wait to hear what comes out of his mouth, said eYada.coms CEO
Bob Meyrowitz, who also created the syndicated rock radio show King
Biscuit Flower Hour. I dont know what hes going to say, I dont know
what hes going to do, but I would pay to hear it. Rotten declined
to make himself available for interviews. Since there are no FCC regulations
for online broadcasting, Rotten can be as wild as he wants to be.
Meyrowitz said there will be no warning that Rottens show might be
unsuitable for younger listeners. Listen, hes talking on the Internet,
he said. Hes not a pornographer. Hes not starting a war.... I think
this is something that will be exciting, will be provocative, will
be different. But its not incendiary. Maybe not today, but this is
the leader of the group that in 1976, on a live BBC broadcast, began
cursing up a royal blue streak. That got the Pistols banned from performing
live in Britain. None of this concerns Meyrowitz, who calls Rotten
an artist, a provocative one, an important one. I think allowing him
a place to say what he wants to say is important. Other hosts on eYada.com
include Lionel, Daily News columnists Rush & Molloy, and Bob Berkowitz,
host of CNBCs Real Personal.
- Thanks to Brian for the press release!

eYada.com's main Rotten Radio banner is
now a link that will take you to a brief bio on John, including an
e-mail the host form. If anyone happens to get a reply from
Mr. Lydon, we'd love to post it!
- Thanks to Bob and Jason!

Jason points out that eYada.com has a
banner that now says Rotten Radio will premiere on 12.4.99. This could
be due to our previous report that John is currently too busy with

we'll be seeing/hearing a lot of Johnny in the very near future!

Beginning Saturday, November 6th, Lydon will beam his British bad-boy

Heard around the world, eYada.com is home to on-air personalities
such as Richard Johnson, editor of the New York Post's "Page Six";
George Rush and Joanna Molloy, the Daily News' husband and wife gossip
duo; Bob Berkowitz, former host of CNBC sex advice program "Real Personal,"
and Lionel, one of talk radio's top ten hosts.
"The Web is the perfect medium for John," said eYada.com president
and CEO Bob Meyowitz, , who also created the groundbreaking syndicated
rock radio show King Biscuit Flower Hour, "Not only can he reach his
fans all over the globe, but he can be as outrageous as he wants to
be. He can say and do anything he wants and that is what Web radio
is all about. We're thrilled to have him join eYada.com's talent roster."
Since being banned by the BBC for his UK hit "God Save the Queen",
Lydon has provoked controversy at any and every expense. After the
Sex Pistols imploded in 1978, Lydon formed Public Image Ltd and recorded
10 hit albums in the 1980s. In 1994, Lydon wrote Rotten: No Irish,
No Blacks, No Dogs, an autobiography that became a best seller in
the US and went #1 in the UK. The Sex Pistols reformed for a 20th
Anniversary tour in 1996.
eYada.com will Webcast Lydon's live program from his Los Angeles home
every Saturday evening from 4-8pm EST.

- Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens Saturday!
October 31st, 1999
Happy Halloween!
Rotten Radio was not broadcast yesterday as earlier reported. Mtv.com
altered their previous news report to read that it will now air on
eYada.com next Saturday. However, the following report (and message
board post) indicates that might not even be a correct date due to
the upcoming VH1 show, Rotten Television, which is currently gaining
steam...
"The radio show is on the back burner for John right now, he just
doesn't have the time...The equipment is set up, it's just a matter
of him being ready."
