Following on from Leftfield's announcement to pull-out of their appearance in Israel - we can assure you Public Image Limited will absolutely NOT be canceling.
David Worth - who drew and kindly gave us the PiL / John Lydon caricatures cartoons for use on the sites - got to meet John and Rambo at Liverpool. We've republished all of David's caricatures above; including a pic of David with John and Rambo. They are laughing at the picture of the chimp peeing on John! Respect to David. Thank you. To clear up any confusion regards the funding/backing of the forthcoming PiL documentary.
The company Artists Public Domain are the sole company backing the production of the documentary. One of the company 'Artists Public Domain' co-founders is also a co-founder of DFA Records to whom LCD Soundsystem are signed. LCD Soundsystem however have no direct association with the production of this documentary.

july 16th 2010
You can listen to yesterday's BBC6 Music interview via the BBC website or iPlayer service. John talks about lack of support from Virgin / EMI and the band's forthcoming show in Israel.
"I will play to the people. I don't play to the Government of anything... I'm playing to human beings, and to deny me that right and turn music into some kind of political joystick is quite repulsive to me, and really, really wrong."
"And hello, Arab countries you ain't inviting me. I've got no prejudices playing both sides of those borders..."
He also talks about Israel - amongst many other things - on Sky News this Sunday, July 18th, at approx 11.45am. Not to be missed!
You can still listen to John's interview with Vic Galloway on BBC Scotland from July 5th via BBC iPlayer. John discusses the possibility of the band recording a self-funded album at the end of the year and looks forward to next week's show in Glasgow.
John is interviewed in today's edition (Friday) of the Daily Mirror. Read the interview here. Also look out for John on the front cover of tomorrow's 'Independent Magazine' within the Independent Newspaper. He will also be on the cover of the Guardian Guide within the Guardian Newspaper, again tomorrow, Saturday July 17th.
“Of course, there are all sorts of terrible politics going on down there but there is just about all over the world. You cannot separate yourself from your audience because of the political powers-that-be. I mean, I'm anti-government—I have been all my life no matter where I go—and I shall be making that loud and clearly proud once I'm in Israel."
"We've received a lot of hate mail, as it happens, going to Israel is some kind of political faux pas. I say, 'Don't be so ignorant -- it's John speaking here and I'm going there to cause trouble and I will do it musically.”
As a big fan of the Pistols & PIL for more than 30 years, and a warrior for peace & equality, anti-fascist & anti-racist, i'm waiting for you, johnny.

PiLOfficial.Com has also added pictures of Club Nokia and Coachella to their Image Gallery pages. The shots were taken by PiL friend and associate River O'Mahoney Hagg. River gets the shots the others don't. Whether that be on stage, in the crowd, in the pit, or in the dressing room. Hats off to him. Welcome home.
NEW YORK TIMES (Coachella)
“Mr. Lydon’s voice, as strong and cantankerous as ever, was a sneer, a taunt, a howl, a bleat and a cry of pain. His production values were in his hair, spiked skyward, and in the various instruments--including a long-necked electric sax--played by the guitarist Lu Edmonds, who was a member of Public Image Ltd. in the 1980s. …PiL has kept the skeletons of its songs, but it lets Mr. Edmonds and a new rhythm section take them over. Mr. Edmonds likes reverb, leaving fewer stark open spaces, and Middle Eastern music, coming up with modal leads that add a different kind of angularity to the music. Scott Firth on bass and keyboards and Bruce Smith on drums make the beats jauntier than they were in PiL’s old recordings. But Mr. Lydon’s voice is still corrosive, with additional decades of knowing sarcasm. ’Hello, Coachella, I’m a nice fella,’ he rhymed as he introduced ‘Flowers of Romance.’ He ended PiL’s set, which outlasted Jay-Z’s, with ‘Open Up,’ a song he recorded in 1993 as Leftfield Lydon, collaborating with the electronic group Leftfield. ‘Lose yourself inside your schemes/Go for the money, honey,’ he cackled. ‘Burn, Hollywood, burn.’”

LOS ANGELES TIMES (Coachella)
“…snarling post-punk pioneers Public Image Ltd. offered a master class in the volatile blend of disco, dub and the avant-garde that informed LCD Soundsystem’s rapturous punk-funk and many of Coachella’s previous breakout bands, such as Bloc Party.”

ROLLING STONE.COM (Club Nokia, Los Angeles)

“… PiL operated amid swirling dark clouds of noise, emphasizing the brooding, uncompromising tone of PiL’s sound. The group’s early signature song, ‘Public Image,’ was not far removed from the raw, straight-ahead rock of the Pistols, but with a guitar sound that became the template for U2’s the Edge and other players. ‘Albatross’ was all post-punk gloom and slicing riffs, while the deep grooves of ‘Religion’ were provocative and riveting…”

SPIN.COM (Club Nokia, Los Angeles)

“From the set's opening number--the band's biggest hit, 1983's ‘This Is Not A Love Song’--PiL held a firm grasp on the audience's attention with Lydon's spasmodic dancing and monstrous bursts of scream-singing. The band played old songs like ‘Rise,’ ‘Death Disco,’ and ‘Flowers of Romance.’ Edmonds slashed his way through the riff-heavy songs as Firth unleashed hard-hitting baselines on tracks like ‘Sun’ and ‘Warrior.’ …both young music lovers and old school rockers--who danced and moshed, eager to act out the punk days of the past. Coachella fans take note: PiL's performance Friday night at 11:20 PM at the Outdoor Theatre is not to be missed.”
